Electricity Bill Components: Energy, Distribution, Taxes and Other Charges
An electricity bill is more than consumed kWh multiplied by a unit price. Energy, distribution, taxes and other regulated components must be checked against the same billing period and customer class.
Consumption and metering period
Start by matching opening and closing indexes, multipliers, metering intervals and active energy totals to meter records. Estimated reads, meter replacements or missing interval data should be resolved before comparing the bill with operational data.
Tariff and contract checks
Customer class, time-of-use structure, contract margin and effective-period rates should match the bill. For PTF-indexed contracts, verify how interval consumption and market prices are combined in the pricing formula.
Automated bill validation
When meter, contract, tariff and invoice data share a common model, out-of-tolerance differences can be flagged automatically. Not every difference is an error, so rounding, period shifts and corrective invoices need an auditable explanation.
